I already have earned a master's degree in photojournalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984 plus I've pursued post-graduate studies at other colleges. Further, I already possess a number of years experience as a graphic designer and web designer (see the "Work experience" section below). The reason that I enrolled in The Art Institute Online was to upgrade my job skills.

I am on a team performing deskside tech support of hardware and software issues for the client's local and (occasionally) offsite employees. For six months in the middle of this period, I worked in a different position in which I provided phone tech support for Freightliner and Western Star brand truck dealers.

This company is a leading publisher of worship resources ("missals") and hymnals for the Catholic Church in the United States. My job responsibilities included laying out and proofing various publications using Quark Xpress (two-thirds of the job) and Filemaker Pro database development (one-third of the job).
I used Xdata, Xcatalog, and Xtags — all Quark extensions from Em Software — as well as Filemaker's own extensive text manipulation capabilities, to "dynamically publish" (defined above) all or portions of seven OCP publications.

What I did: Volunteer digital video production
Videotaped activities at a camp for junior high students (summer 1999) run by this Christian youth organization, using my own digital video camera. Using Adobe Premiere and my computer (transported to the camp for this purpose), I edited each day’s footage into a three-minute video shown to the campers at night. Later I re-edited my footage and compiled it into a long-form videotape given to each camper.
Over the Memorial Day weekend 2000, I videotaped a similar Young Life camp (for adult leaders this time), again editing my video footage on-site.
